Your typical sneaker consists of the following materials; ethylene vinyl acetate, polyurethane, carbon rubber, and a bunch of other little plastics and such. Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) is considered a safer alternative compared to other materials, but it is still a plastic, and plastic is never a safe alternative! Our sneakers are made from all these artificial materials, that we do not realize harm the Earth in the long run. I'm sure you are waiting for what new exciting product I have found, well Nike is the lucky winner this time! Nike has teamed up with Steve Nash, the All-Star Guard for the Phoenix Suns, and have created the Nike Trash Talk (pun intended.) This shoe is the first Nike performance basketball sneaker completely made from manufacturing wastes. So here is an alternative, safer product for any of you playing basketball this season!

It's Electric-Boogie woogie, woogie!
Ok it really doesn't get any better than this! Create and conserve energy just by dancing? Count me in!!!! The new hott thing in European dance clubs is eco-clubs. Dr.Earth, owner of club Surya in the London's Kings Cross district, is one of the first to have a completely eco-friendly dance club. The venue's dancefloor is made up of wooden boards. But underneath are crystals which compress when people tread above them and as they move an electrical current is generated. This "piezoelectricity" is fed back into the club's energy supply powering all its lights and air conditioning.

Stepping on Green!
I was in a class today and the teacher and I started to discuss energy conservation and such. She told me about this website called Huffington Post. So I checked it out and came across this really cool article about Energy Generating Pavement. Designed by Laurence Kemball-Cook, these sidewalk squares store kinetic energy that is created by a single foot step. The energy that is gathered is stored within lithium polymer batteries or distributed to nearby lights. These squares have been placed for testing throughout East London, and will be distributed throughout the UK in 2010. Pavegen's goal is to reach across to the most trafficked places around the world.
